Bella stopped by for a quick test shoot recently. She has a super unique look, and it’s definitely taking her places. She just finished shooting for 17 magazine, and signed a contract in NY with Click Model Management!

Ms. Valdez

My good friend Emily Valdez was in town briefly visiting family over Christmas. We found enough time in between drinking eggnogg and singing carols to get a quick test in!  She rocks my socks. End of story.

Larger Than Life (WOODCHUCK ad Campaign)

Last week I had the pleasure of working with Upfront on an ad campaign for WOODCHUCKcase. Our mission was to create larger than life displays that captured the unique personality of WOODCHUCK.  Luckily we had the perfect people to fill their wooden shoes. John-Mark and Kelley Havey were our models for the campaign, and could not have been a more perfect fit.

The images needed to show a level of sophistication and effortlessness, while still bringing a ton of energy to the table. Showcasing the products without coming across, “catalogy” was our challenge – and the abstract movement of the models was our answer. John-Mark channeled his inner Matrix, traveling in and out of reality for most of the shoot. He brought the heat for sure. Kelley did an awesome job at playing the sophisticated anchor to John Mark’s wild character.

After we wrapped the shoot, the prepress guys at Upfront hustled and got the final images outputted into 8 foot tall displays. I can’t explain to you how awesome it is to be a part of such a seamless process. The team turned this concept in to a larger-than-life reality, and did it all under one roof. Special thanks to Zach Nelson for documenting the process in only a way that he can.

Where do You Want to Go?

Sea planes, fancy wardrobe, pretty people, and a surreal private lake painted in Fall colors.  All of these elements were present, along with an awesome crew, at our shoot last week for Upfront.  Below are some previews and behind the scenes images from the day!

As a photographer from the Midwest, I often times envy people that reside on the west coast. Minnesota winters are fun for the first few weeks, but soon become much too cold and enduring for me. The novelty of a white wonderland wears off quickly when snot stalactites are forming from your nostrils. I’ve always found red canyons and barren desserts to be total eye candy.

It’s for this reason that I decided to play pretend. This location was about the closest thing to a desert that one can find in MN. I had a ridiculously awesome team for the shoot. We flew through outfits to battle the fleeting sunlight, and I’m so impressed with how everyone did.

Catholic Heart Work Camp

My grandma approached me a few months ago, asking if I’d be willing to help her out on a mission trip to North Carolina. If you’ve ever had the chance to meet my grandma, you’d know that it’s literally impossible to say no to her.  She is truly an incredible person and happens to be a Youth Minister at our church in Minnesota. I had been on CWHC once before and I remember it as being one of the best experiences of my life, so I was eager to participate again as a chaperone.

We crammed over 90 people from our parish onto 2 coach buses and hit the pavement. Our 24 hour tour eastward brought us down the spine of the country, and wound us around the Appalachian Mountains. I set a new personal record for most movies consecutively watched in one sitting, and also found that a gallon jug of water can be used as a luxurious and portable shower. Fast food and intense card games kept us occupied for most of the long haul. Upon arriving at the camp, we were greeted by an energetic team of people. CWHC is a unique medley of good music, prayer, laughter, and work. It’s really something that I wish everyone could experience.

Our particular work group was in charge of helping out the Servant Center. The Servant center is a transition facility for homeless veterans. We got to meet some incredible people, including a man named Frank, who was in charge of the grounds at the Servant center. Frank is really a testimony to the program, being that he was once a homeless veteran himself.

Overall, the trip was a great chance to get back to center. I gained a lot of great relationships and got a new perspective on the world. I’m going to take a lot away from the entire experience.
